HSF

Entrepreneurship Summit

Duration:

12 hours

Tools:

Figma, G-Suite

Role:

Designer, Spokesperson

Hispanic Scholarship Fund

At HSF’s Entrepreneurship Summit, we were tasked to imagine how HSF could benefit and use AI models to scale the impact of HSF’s mission statement.

My team decided to investigate how we could leverage AI for both internal tools as well as external communications to our Latino community.

Problem:

Develop a recommendation for how HSF should utilize artificial intelligence tools, like ChatGPT, in their organization.

Goals

With the diverse talent on our team, we knew that we could tackle the following goals through the lens of both internal and external teams.

1. Increase Organizational Productivity

2. Boost Operational Efficiency

3. Impact Students and Parents

Main Insight:

HSF struggles to find time to provide tools and resources to families due to manually completing logistical tasks.

Our Solution:

Yüda

Your ultimate digital assistant.

Powered by GPT 3.5.

College Recommendation System

Learn about majors and career paths that are tailored to your interests. Explore areas that you may have never heard.

Career Recommendation System

Unsure of where to go for undergrad? Get recommended colleges and universities that match with your interests, academic strengths, involved clubs, and general likes/dislikes.

Mentor Recommendation System

Get matched to a mentor that has the experience you are looking to obtain. Read their back story, where they are in the career currently, and connect with them to propel you in your career.

My Process:

Because we were limited to less than 12 hours to develop a business plan as well as create enticing visuals for the panel of judges, our design process was done with blitz.

Teaching my team a bit about the design process was essential, so I spent the first couple of minutes teaching my teammates about design and design thinking. Once they learned the basics,

We interviewed

person

We needed a better idea of what happens inside HSF, so we asked questions like:

How does HSF spread the message of their NPO?

Tell me about a big project that you were tasked with?

With such a small team, how do you give support across different teams?

Competitive Analysis

With an interview under our belt, we gained inspiration from secondary research into using AI for educational support. We looked at Khanmigo, Khan Academy’s AI learning tool.

Main Takeaways:

Ideation

Around this time, my team and I began to brainstorm individually for solutions.

Based on my research, I found that HSF could potentially benefit from both services for the internal staff team, as well as providing personalized support and resources for student stakeholders. As a result, I believed that developing a chatbot with different training models (for internal and external uses) might be the most beneficial for HSF to increase organizational productivity and boost operational efficiency.

💡

In addition to an AI powered chat-bot, developing recommendation-based tools for career growth would allow HSF to increase their impact amongst students and parents.

✍🏼

I came up with the name YUDA, derived from the Spanish word “ayuda” for ‘help’. As a team, we decided it should also be an acronym. We settled on “Your Ultimate Digital Assistant” because at its core, that is what YUDA is.

Prototyping and Design

To make the designs faster, I used existing visual patterns in order to create unity with my proposed solution. With designing the entry point for the solution, I also created the main product page to explain what Yuda does.

Presentation and Feedback

During the pitch portion of the case-study, we presented our product to the panel of judges, including Fidel Vargas, CEO and President of HSF. During the 5-minute presentation window, we were the only group (out of ten) that didn’t receive any questions or feedback.

Reflection:

Out of 20 super groups, we won 1st place with our solution!

With SuperGroup #10 after being awarded “Best Pitch“ at the HSF Entrepreneurship Summit 2023. Fidel Vargas (President, CEO of HSF) is to the right of me with the black turtle neck.

I am proud to have collaborated with scholars across different disciplines. Thanks to my team, my Super-Group 10, for allowing me to represent and lead the design of this 12-hour case-study. I challenged myself to create a visual representation of our product YUDA, and I could not have been more proud of how we told the story. If there was one thing I could continue doing, I would love to have designed the recommendation systems since I feel this is an area that is truly something that isn’t out but would really benefit thousands of Latino scholars across the country. I am sure this is a project I will be able to reflect on once HSF does build out their AI solution, but until then - viva Super-Group 10 - the chicken tendies!
